First full Tekstreme safari - total success! - [Friday, December 3 2004]
With new Tekstreme teams now up and running in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab, Paul Vinten reports on the first Tekstreme safari from Sharm. Rather enjoyable it seems!

Report from Paul Vinten, Tekstreme tech safari, 18 - 25 November

"We left from Sharm going north with 11 trimix divers on a mixture of Closed and Open circuit systems. The guides were myself along with Michael Heuze who runs tekstreme in Sharm.

It was our responsibility to oversee all the gas mixing and blending in order to ensure the guests had their required trimix and decompression gases for the dives. In addition to this, we had to give 'slightly different' dive site briefings to those given on the day boats!

Our diving included a long penetration dive on the wreck of the Rosalie Muller, dives to over 100m on the beautiful walls at Ras Mohammed, explorations of the deep caves at depths of down to 90m at Jackfish Alley and a tour down the stunning canyon of Thomas Reef at Tiran.

The safari was a great success and as the guests departed, they were already talking of next year's trip!"

New Manager pushes fresh frontiers for Emperor's Tekstreme Team - [Tuesday, October 19 2004]
Emperor Divers' Tekstreme Team has appointed a dedicated Technical Diving Manager.

Aaron Bruce, a former Royal Navy Clearance Diver and TDI Instructor Trainer, will take over the Tekstreme operation, bringing with him a vast range of tech diving experience gained from teaching a range of courses from entry-level right through to instructor-level with both TDI and PADI.

Aaron’s knowledge of tech diving and Red Sea deep wrecks is second to none. He will be sharing his expertise with his team of instructors and guides to drive Tekstreme forward as one of the best technical diving operations throughout the seven locations covered by Emperor Divers, as well as on Emperor’s Liveaboard Tech Boats.

Aaron has already been locating suitable wrecks for tech diving and is actively searching out new sites suitable for each step of the training ladder and for qualified tech divers looking for a new adventure.

“This is an exciting time for tech diving,” explains Aaron, “and being part of a pro-active company like Emperor Divers – who has such a fine reputation across all diving disciplines – means I can really take tech diving out to those dedicated techies, bring new tech divers on board and push out to new frontiers.”

Tekstreme – expanding the team - [Monday, June 7 2004]
Emperor’s Tekstreme Team is expanding. On top of the existing team members, who constantly increase their experience and qualifications, new members are trained and will be part of the Tekstreme Team in Sharm El Sheikh and Dahab. An extensive program was necessary to qualify all these diving instructors and guides at various levels and certifications.

The last week of May 2004 was an exhaustive and sometimes hilarious experience for some selected instructors in Emperor Divers, Sharm El Sheikh. Dougal Wilson, Luca Maritan, Dieter Kudler, Pete Matthews and Graham Pierce spent a lot of time underwater exploring the deep dive sites of the Strait of Tiran.

Even having worked in Sharm for several years, they discovered new deep sites they didn’t know before, thanks to the Tekstreme diving equipment and procedures.

The first week of June 2004 saw the opportunity to enjoy the wonderful deep dive sites off Dahab. Members of the Tekstreme Team in Sharm traveled to Dahab with about half a ton of equipment in order to meet David Peart and his guides from Emperor Divers, Dahab.

Time passed all too quickly between the Trimix dives in the Blue Hole, the Canyon and the technically-oriented dive sites of the area, all accessible from the beach. Preparing the equipment, planning the Trimix dives, filling the tanks, loading and unloading the Land Rovers were just part of the daily routine.

Tekstreme – Deep Safety Support for the International Free Diving Trophy - [Friday, May 21 2004]
The Tekstreme Team was selected to be the support diver team during the 1st International Free Diving Trophy (Apnea Academy competition) “City of Peace” that took place on the 20th and 21st May 2004 in Sharm El Sheikh.

One of the most important parts of this Trophy was the Constant Weight Free Diving competition, with more than 40 free divers coming from all over the world.

The Tekstreme Team organized all safety aspects of this event, with support divers on the bottom, at different depths and at the surface. Obviously, because of the great depths and very long bottom times involved with this kind of event, the full range of deep diving equipment was intensively used from Trimix to Nitrox, from Closed-Circuit rebreathers to stage cylinders and twinsets.

The thorough planning made the competition run smoothly and all the competitors were grateful to the Tekstreme divers for their impressive support.

When comparing Technical diving and Free diving, some of the support divers even thought about enrolling in a free diving course: going down to 65 metres without any tank and surfacing in less than two minutes is definitely appealing for a Technical diver who spent more than two hours underwater, with most of the time decoing, carrying 80 kg of equipment!

Explore unknown wrecks with Emperor’s NEW Tek diving safaris - [Thursday, May 13 2004]
Tekstreme divers now have the chance to book onto several new 7-day liveaboard safaris, giving the perfect opportunity to discover and explore some unknown wrecks and reefs of the Red Sea.

Leaving from Sharm El Sheikh, the week is spent diving on unspoiled deep wrecks around the Straits of Gubal, breath-taking drop-offs in the Ras Mohammed Marine Park and long penetration dives on world-class wrecks like the Thistlegorm or the Rosalie Moller.

The water temperature and the dive sites make it possible to do two dives in one: The first part being a deep dive exploring a wreck, a surprising canyon or an astonishing wall in crystal clear water. The second part of the same dive is spent in shallow water, swimming around colourful coral reefs, teeming with marine life, while completing the decompression stops.

Night dives are also a great opportunity to discover surprising wrecks in shallower depths.

Important Note:This trip is only open to certified and experienced Tek divers as some dive sites are deep and beyond the capabilities and range of the recreational diver. It is designed to fulfil the needs of Extended Range and Trimix divers, using open circuit scuba or rebreather.
